This article originally spanned two columns.  I combined them for ease of viewing.  I don't think that the "Bug" Holliday paragraph has anything to do with the Trilbys and Bakersfield game, but it was too good to leave out.

    Bug Holliday made his big-league debut in 1885 ... in the World Series! He did not play a regular-season game until 1889.
